Welcome To the Department of Psychology
Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the University of Toledo. The psychology department is composed of over 20 full-time faculty members, over 40 Ph.D. graduate students, and over 450 undergraduate students majoring in psychology. Our department stands for excellence in research and scholarship as it develops and disseminates knowledge through its undergraduate and graduate programs.
For our undergraduate students, we offer a wide array of courses, chances for hands-on research experience, and opportunities to learn about clinical practice. Our mission at the undergraduate level is to provide students with a solid training in the field of Psychology by presenting historical and contemporary research on human and animal behavior. Students in Psychology courses learn to think logically and critically about human behavior and to relate psychological principles to everyday living.
At the graduate level, our department features an APA accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program as well as a Experimental Ph.D. program, offering specializations in either Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Psychobiology and Learning, and Cross-Cultural Psychology. Although these programs differ in many respects, the purpose of both programs is to provide superior training in psychological research methods, statistical procedures, clinical practice, and theoretical comprehension. Our doctoral training emphasizes the inculcation of scientific attitudes with regard to (a) the gathering and evaluation of information, (b) the solving of basic and applied research problems, and in the clinical area, (c) clinical assessment and psychotherapy.
